free

Because of Jesus, I am free.  There is no greater joy than knowing that through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ I am made new, and I am free.  Before reading this post, please forgive me because this may be a little (or a lot) scatterbrained.

Learning about the resurrection of Christ, and really grasping what it meant for the first time, was the foundation of my walk with the Lord.  I’ve never been able to fully understand the love of Jesus that is so deep even death could not shake it, but the glimpse that I have seen is enough to keep me searching for more every day of my life.

I will never know enough about my Savior.  I will never be content with only having a little knowledge of his love and his power.

I want to know and experience every piece of him that I can, because this is the One who saved my life.

Jesus Christ endured the weight of my sin, died for it, and defeated the grave so that I could be free. He knew no sin, yet he died the death of a criminal. In my place.

The nails put through his hands were a result of my sin…It was me that held him to that cross. But even then his amazing love for me remained unchanged.

You see, I think a lot of us overlook the fact that our God is a just God.  There is punishment for wrongdoings, and there is a price to pay for each sin we fall to.  Our sins are forgiven not because we have paid the price for them, but because Jesus did with his life. Through the death of Jesus, the debt brought on by our sin has been paid in full.

But the remarkably beautiful fact is that the story does not end there, and I thank the Lord for that.  Not only did Jesus die for us, he overcame the grave, he rose to life again, and he forever freed us from the sins holding our souls captive.

Through Jesus defeating the grave, we are given new life. We are given the opportunity to live forever with him.  Because Jesus rose from the grave, we have hope that we will one day stand face-to-face with our God, being welcomed with open arms and a heart full of love into his home to live forevermore.  This is the joy of Easter.

Death has been defeated. Jesus is alive.  Hope is ours.  We are loved. We are free.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” -1 Peter 1:3
